Excellent writeup. A good refresher for some and hopefully it opens up the whole new world of the command line to others.

This is a great tool! It will certainly speed up my work replicating lowers and such!

I was searching for something similar to this. Andrew Kramer of http://www.videocopilot.net just put out some "Breaking News" FX templates and I started to think about how to get the text fields (i.e.--stock symbols, headlines) to "tick". Meaning, the fields animate and the text replaces within the same Comp.

Not being ungrateful or trying to push for additional features, just a thought for how this could be expanded. Of course, I'm not a script writer/programmer, just a designer. ;)

Again, thanks for this tool!

Following your intrustions and a little help your script worked great.

Though I am having a little trouble with somthing unrelated to it, but i hope you dont mind me asking as someone else might have come across the same problem.

The timeline appears after i import the xml into AE3, but there is no picture, even when i click on one of the video files nothing shows up. There is sound, which makes me belive that it is probably a quicktime or codec problem.

Anyone able to offer advice? Im using FCP 5.0.4, quicktime 7.5, AE3. When I import the file seperatly it works. but not when i go through FCP first. the clips are also HD and im using a panasonic hvx200 camera with a p2 card.

thanks

Hey Jonathan,

I took the beta expire out. Since I've had a hard time finding the time outside of my day job I need to devote to this project I'm looking to open source the project and hopefully somebody can pick up the baton on development. It's going to take me a bit to get the project set up but for now I'm going to take out the beta expire stuff on the AE7 project and next set it up for the CS3 script . More to follow.

Using the AE7 version and I'm getting the beta expiration notice. I can set my computer back a month and it works fine but that's pretty annoying. Thanks.

Hi, this is a great workflow hack.

Just thought you might be interested that the cool new feature in Leopard you talked about in the end of the article have come to fruition.

I've got a post on the application of the new "watch me do" function. Just thought you'd be interested if you're into automation.

Hey Ed,

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but is it possible that media managing to the new media or duping the original sequence and changing the sequence setup would work for this?

Hi, this post interested me greatly.

Could this script be modified for the following scenario (which I'm often faced with in production):

I have an ungraded SD master movie file of an HD project created in FCP.

We have no need to do an HD grade (delivery is SD only), and want to keep the render time short for a very quick turn around.

So, we import the SD master back into FCP, and now want to break it up along the original edit points, before sending it to Color. Usually this has to be done manually, which seems silly, since we have and HD timeline with the cut points already in it.

Could the TimelineToTC script be adapted to output a cut point list from the original HD timeline, and then be used to apply the cuts to the SD master in a new timeline?

Thanks.

running QT 7.3.1 on Mac OS 10.4.1 and "show legacy encoders" is not an option under the advanced tab.
was worth a try though as i've lost the "uncompressed 8 and 10 bit" encoders since
upgrading.
all other codecs show up, however.

Dale

You're my hero of the day bro! I can't tell you how long we've been looking for a solution to export our sequence markers to a sequential text file. We tried xml2text
which is a Swedish application that only accepts Paypal in the Dutch language. I just tried out XML Reader, it didn't do what we wanted. I found your great post, downloaded the action and workflow, fired up automator and it works better than we hoped.

We use mostly Avids (blah) and this function is built into those systems, but strangely enough, FCP still has no function like this built in.

Thanks again for this post. My life is easier as a result of your work!!
